Kaya
February, 4103 U.E.T.âTiyas, Mars
Kaya could feel before she could see. Rough hands half carried and half dragged her across the floor before leaving her to fall on her side. Her hands were bound behind her back, so she gasped as she hit the ground unexpectedly.
âBy Godâs bones, what is this?â said an unfamiliar male voice.
âI found some lost birdies,â came the voice of the woman from before. How much time had gone by? Where was she?
âTake the hoods off. Letâs see what we have.â
The hood came off with a yank, and Kaya tried to stumble to her knees, shaking the strands of hair from her face. One of the armored figures who she assumed dragged her here helped her get into the new position.
Aron was next to her, but he still seemed to be unconscious. She didnât know what game he was playing, but he had tried to help her. So for that at least she hoped he was okay, even if it was only so she could be the one to beat him.
The room went silent when her hood came off, and she took stock of the room. It was nondescript with no windows and unadorned walls save for the large banner with two crossed torches on it. A large table that could have belonged in a meeting room dominated the center surrounded by several chairs.
There were a few people in the room, but her eyes were drawn in front of her, where a man stood leaning casually on a table, arms crossed on his chest. When he looked down at Kaya, his eyes went wide.
She tried to steady her breathing. She had to be strong, now most of all. Not for her or Aron but for the dreams she had worked so hard for that were so close to being realized. She couldnât let theseâ¦criminals or anyone take that away from her. At least not without a fight.
âA lost birdie? You brought us a royal pheasant,â he said, walking forward. He dropped to one knee in front of her, so their eyes were on the same level. âAmazing, such a rich emerald,â he said as he looked into her eyes, âI didnât believe them when they said the color was unlike anything you had ever seen before, but I bet you have heard that once or twice, eh?â
Kaya stared at him. âWho are you and where am I? I demand answers,â she said, her tears from earlier forgotten as she fought to regain control despite the bindings on her wrists.
The man smiled at her, a toothy boyish smile. His teeth were straight and clean, along with his skin that only showed minor blemishes of age. She guessed he was in his middle years based on the amount of gray hair on his head and beard.
He wore a simple and clean uniform like cadets wore at the Academy, except his was solid black. He wore a gun at his hip but otherwise appeared unarmed.
What her eyes were drawn to most however was his forearms, where he had his shirt sleeves rolled up.
